Northwest Indiana —Two children died Tuesday after being pulled away from the Kankakee River In northwest Indiana, according to authorities’ report.
Officials with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said that the agency was notified that two children were ‘’in danger of drowning in the river’’ at around 5.15 p.m.
The children were found in the LaSalle Fish and Wildlife Area .It is located at 4752 W.1050N in Lake Village, Indiana, near the border between Newton and Lake counties.
One of the children of 4-year old was identified as Levi Patillo. He was taken to hospital in Crown Point (Franciscan Health hospital).
According to the Lake County coroner’s office, he was pronounced dead at 6.49 p.m.
The second child’s identity was not revealed immediately. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department told that 34-year-old Eric Patillo, of Thayer, was being held on two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Investigation on the incident is still going on.
The details of the relationship between the children and Eric Patillo was not available.
The case requires more investigation.
